Kettlebells split into two families and mixing them without meaning to is the common mistake. Competition bells keep one shell size across the whole range, so the handle and the body feel identical from the lightest to the heaviest — which is what a lifter training technique needs, and what a club running certifications should buy.

Coatings decide how they behave on your floor and in your hands. A coated bell is kinder to flooring and to chalked hands; bare cast is the traditional feel and the cheaper option.

Buy the full sequence rather than the popular weights. A range with gaps in it gets used around the gaps.
