Box choice is a safety decision before it is anything else. A foam box will not open a shin when a jump is missed, which is why it has become the default for class formats and general membership floors. Timber and steel boxes are more stable under step-ups, carries and heavier athletes, and they take a beating for longer.
Multi-height boxes give three heights in one unit by turning them over, which is the efficient answer where storage is short or where a class needs several heights at once.
Boxes get stacked and dragged all day. If they will live in a class studio, plan where they stack — a stack in a walkway is the most common avoidable hazard in a functional room.
